About Us
San Juan Unified is an educational system dedicated to helping students get their academic start, growing the skills needed to achieve their dreams.

Our teachers and staff are the the heart of our service to students and families. They strive to form personal relationships and build educational plans that meet the needs of the individual student.

We also offer unique and innovative programs including:
-
The UnSchool offers a unique small learning environment for designed by and for high school students.
-
Artful Learning at Ottomon Elementary is one of only two Artful Learning programs in Northern California, students at Ottomon learn basic subjects through the study of art.
-
STEAM at Sylvan Middle School provides an in-depth study of science, technology, engineering, arts and math integrated throughout each class. This recently reconstructed campus also offers a cutting-edge 'makers lab' to release creativity.
-
International Baccalaureate has a long history in San Juan Unified beginning with the regions premiere program at Mira Loma High School. We now offer middle years IB at Winston Churchill Middle School and Elementary IB at Thomas Kelly Elementary.
-
Montessori at Cottage Avenue Elementary provides a learning environment centered on supporting the whole child.
-
English/Spanish Dual Language Immersion at Thomas Edison Language Institute offers elementary students the chance to learn in a bi-literate and bi-cultural environment. Instruction in Kindergarten is delivered 90% in Spanish and then moves to a balance of English and Spanish in later years.
As the 11th largest school district in California, San Juan Unified has the resources needed to meet a variety of student needs but maintains schools that are typically smaller than what you find in other areas. And, while many California schools have worked to reduce class sizes in grades K-3, San Juan has chosen to work toward reducing class sizes in grades K-6.
